In his history of North Yarmouth and Yarmouth, Maine, William Hutchinson Rowe has written a couple of pages about the military career of Augustus Corliss.
In her book "Vanished Arizona" Martha Summerhayes includes comments about Captain Corliss as commander of C Company, 8th Infantry Regiment, her husband's company during these years.
* Note: The Foreside and Falls areas of North Yarmouth became Yarmouth, Maine in 1849.

** "Preface. The absence of the undersigned with his company, as a part of the force engaged in the Bannack War in Oregon during June, July and August, has delayed the issue of this number of 'Old Times' about six weeks. Although such delay was fore-shadowed in a former Preface, a few subscribers have seen fit to complain of the matter. To prevent this in the future, no yearly subscriptions will be received, and no responsibility assumed by me to deliver a copy to anyone, although the magazine will be issued, as I have said before, as long as I find material for it. There will be at least eight more numbers issued, as fast as my duties as an officer in the Army will permit. The delay mentioned above, has also prevented the completion of the Index; and it is now decided to postpone its publication until the last number of the magazine.
A. W. Corliss, Capt. 8th U. S. Infantry. Nov. 14, 1878."
